SVG fun and a picture Tutorial- How to cut out a sentiment with the Make the Cut software

 I had the opportunity to play a little tonight with and SVG file and cut out a quick card.

 I used the Fancy Frames SVG File by Paper Cutz from McMahon Five Designs for my card.

 

I used the bottom of the three outlines for the base of my card. I copied it, pasted it onto itself and then slid the top copy over to the side- overlapping them slightly and welded the shape together- so I have a shaped card. I used digital designer paper from the Modern Flowers series for the second layer and a sentiment from the Modern Flowers digi set for the final layer.

I wanted to show you how I created the layer with the sentiment using the Make the Cut. I took a scrap piece of cardstock and cut out the sentiment panel.

 I have my sentiment printed out on cardstock- so I trim that to fit under the piece of paper on my mat with the cut out- do not remove it from your mat- simply lift it up from the top and slide the sentiment panel underneath it.

Now I slide my sentiment under the cut out so it is right where I want it to cut out. 

Next, just lift off your template, press down on your sentiment panel to make sure it is secure on the mat and hit cut.

The background cardstock is So Saffron from Stampin Up. 

I hope you will give this a try and create layered cards with your sentiment as the top layer.

Next I elongated the file- how fun are SVG's???

 Yes, this is the same file as the one on top- I simply dragged the bottom curser on the make the cut down and this new shape was created. I used Technique Junkies techniques Faux Washi paper and Cuttlebug Highlights on this card. The digi image is by Solocosmo at McMahon Five Designs.

 So, this is what the file looks like when I import it into my MTC.  So, I simply drag on the arrow andmove it to the right and it elongates the file.  You can choose to move any of the arrows to alter a file.

Creative Belli 122- Christmas in July

The Creative Belli challenge is a Christmas inspiration challenge for the next two weeks. Our inspiration piece is this beautiful Christmas china that belongs to our design team member, Karen Wallace. Thank you Karen for providing us with such lovely inspiration to create our cards and projects.

The spirit of the Belli challenges is to encourage you to use your OLD and FORGOTTEN embellishments!

I used the colors of the china as my inspiration and played around with more SVG files:

  Everything about this card- except the sentiment circles (digi image from McMahon Five Designs)- are SVG files that I cut out using my electronic cutting machine and the Make the Cut.  I imported an octogen shape and joined it to make it into a card (that folds). Then, I imported a scalloped octogen for my flower background. The flower SVG is from McMahon Five Designs and is available NOW as a FREE digital image AND as a FREE SVG file.  This flower works beautifully as a tropical flower OR as a Poinsettia, don't you think?
The Papers I used are: Incandescent  in Rosso and Candido and Mica in the gold. The Green paper is from my stash : )

Bloggers Challenge-Sketch Challenge

 For the Bloggers Challenge this week, Challenge Mom Lisa challenged to a Sketch challenge. This is what I came up with:

 I took a bit of creative liberty and stretched the circle into the square...and made the corners out of a SU punch. HERE is the picture that inspired my card from Google images. I brayered in the Zindorfian style with Orchid, Eggplant Envy and sponged on So Saffron and a dab of Mustard ink.  I was fortunate to have taken Michelle's class twice...... : )

 I have previously mentioned that I have been learning how to use SVG files on my electronic cutting machine.  I was fortunate enough to get the Make the Cut software and have been learning how to use it. 
And, McMahon Five Designs is now releasing SVG files-HERE is the link including the Palm Trees file I used on my project- and a FREEBIE floral image.  I am enjoying the challenge and feel the soft ware (Make the Cut) is like I-Tunes in that I can buy just the image I want and make it big or small.....

Bloggers Challenge-Masculine

  I have been slowly learning how to use SVG files on the Make the Cut program- it is software that works with my electronic cutting machine to cut out any SVG file.

 This is what I came up with.  I used two SVG files both from McMahon Five Designs. I have some pictures below (at the end of the post)  for those that are interested is seeing how the MTC works.

OK- for a look-see for how the Make the Cut works:
After I purchase and save the SVG file I put it into a file (just like a digital image). Unlike a digital image you cannot see a preview of the file when you click on it- so name it appropriately.

Open the Make the Cut software and import SVG- click on the file and the SVG shows up on a mat on the screen.

I click on the above group of images together and I see red arrows at the corners- just like a digi resizing- I just move one of the cornersout to the size I want my SVG to be (the mat is in inches and it looks just like the mat on my cutting machine).

 Next, I take my cursor and move one of the layers from the "DAD" over to the right as seen below.
 

The box with the shape is outlined in blue-above.  I have a little area for layers- so I hit a little plus sign (not shown) and it adds my layer of the shape I have chosen.

and then I move the "Dad' letters over too.

I drag a box around the "DAD" letters and hit plus and it makes the letters a separate layer.
I continue with all of the shapes- there are 5 total:

 If you look closely above, you see a little eye- I have the eye closed on all of the layers except the Dad and the shape just behind it.

Now- notice the shapes all have a plus sign in the centers- so I can put Dad back over the background and make sure they are lined up perfectly.   (I added more pictures below- so all of the shapes are not on their own layers anymore....)

I now turn off the layers I do not want to cut by closing the eye- place my paper on the mat- it goes exactly where the measurements show on the virtual mat and hit the cut icon on my software.

You can see the shadow of the letters that I have the eye off- they will not cut yet.  You can move that layer and lay out all of your papers where you need them and cut all at once-using the same or different papers. My next challenge will be to import a digi image to trace the outer shape and get it to match the size of a digi image exactly- no more fussy cutting.......! 
Viola- you have cut out your SVG.

On my card, I took this shape layer and added ~ 1/4 of an inch to put under the cut DAD layers and the brown card stock- that is the far back cream layer.  The keys at the top of my card are a seperate SVG - I used only three of the keys and they are smaller than an inch each. I added Spica glitter pen to them for some sparkle.

My daughter did not like this card- but my husband likes it alot- go figure.

Graduation 2011

My youngest graduated from High School last Saturday. Her class had ~ 550 kids.....with that comes lots of graduation parties- so I am making cards a few at a time.

 I made these cards with a Graduate border SVG file that Dana made (her Blog HERE) - love this- cut on Sparkle Noir it is a gorgeous black cardstock with a bit of sparkle in the cardstock. On the first card, I embossed the background with a SU embossing folder. On the second card, I added a "Congrats" dollar sentiment to the back panel in Versamark Dazzle. Both the sentiment and the diploma are from Create with TLC. On the inside, a dollar diploma added to a sentiment from Verve

 We had a great day and ate alot at parties that followed!

 Do you have the Make the Cut?  I have found a couple of great resources for help!  There is a Yahoo group that is all MTC tutorials to learn HOW to use the MTC- Google make the Cut tutorials Yahoo group....  There is also a Forum for the Make the Cut HERE.  The help and support of the ladies on these groups is so awesome!  Make the Cut is like Itunes for shapes to cut with your electronic cutter- I do not have to spend $100.00 to make one card anymore- {LOVE}.
