Father's Day 2017

I made my husband a fun Father's Day card- he loved it!  He is a nature buff and just loves Squirrels and birds.

This card was made entirely with dies.  The tree, squirrels, bunny and the flower buds are by Cheery Lynn Dies. The Cardinals are from an Impression Obsession die. The white border is a Gina Marie die. The leaves are from a MS edge punch that I cut into pieces and applied.

I applied Distress Oxide inks- first Peeled Paint and Broken China.  Next, I added Cracked Pistachio and Faded Jeans. The letters/number were cut with Die-Versions  Elegance Font DV411 die.

I had to buy a bird feeder that spins off the squirrels because they were taking over the back yard!!! Did I mention he even names them?

More Napkin fun

I used the other half of the napkin from THIS post, and made another card.

For this card, I used the entire background. After removing/separating the backing layers from the napkin, I adhered it to a piece of cardstock that was run thru the Xyron. I fussy cut the butterflies and the flowers on the 2nd panel and popped them up on dimensionals. I added some shimmer with a Shimmery pen. The sentiment is from Art Neko/About Art Accents.
I finished off the card, as you can see, by rounding the corners on the top two layers and adding sequins.

Congrats Grad(s)

We have had a need for many grad cards this year!  Here are just two styles of the many I put together:

I have been pulling out all of my stash and using it up a little at a time!  This is the cardstock that you sand and the core is a different color  I found this grad cap EF at Tuesday Morning a while back and it had never been used yet....  The grad scroll and ribbon is by Angel's Attic. The sentiment is SU.  The dies are unbranded, I cut out the numbers using some sparkly wrapping paper left over from Christmas last year.  I adhered 2" sticky tape the the backside of it before I ran it thru the Big Shot so they were like stickers- already having adhesive on the back. I added sequins for an added touch of fun!

and:

I made the gradient background using distress inks.  I came across a stamp set that I have never used- Hats Off to You by Lawn Fawn. I love this fun card! The numbers are cut out of the wrapping paper I  mentioned above.

COF-Trust/Have Faith

I joined a group on SCS called Crafters of Faith.  We create with a like theme inspired by a scripture and post on the 7th of each month.
I am the hostess this month, and this is what I came up with.

*Psalm 46 Be Still and know that I am God*

In the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, it can be hard for us to sit and be still! To calm our minds and hand over every worry or anxiety to God. I love this theme- any time I begin to worry about something, or have an occasion where everything does not fall in line, or a worry about the kids or even family members with medical issues, I hand it over to God!

So, for the COF challenge, post a card using Trust of Faith as the theme, or using the words Trust of Faith.

I  love to worry- so I work really hard to hand it over to God when I have something on my mind. I was looking for my Psalm 46 stamp and came across this image- from Unity- which I think speaks to my philosophy of handing it over to God- trusting in HIM!!!

I stamped the image and cut it out with Memory Box stitched rectangle die. The border in pool party is a Cheery Lynn Designs die. The birds were colored with Copics. The DP is Paper Studio, the cardstock is Pool Party and Choc Chip from SU, and Recollections white. The Flowers are Prima (pink) and My Memories (white)

CYS-Stash- flowers

For the Challenge Your Stash challenge, we are to use our favorite flowers image. I decided to use a napkin instead of a stamped image- I love flowers!!!

Being a technique person, what brings me comfort is trying a technique!  So.......  I have terrible allergies!  So, while I love all things outdoors, when it gets to the time everything starts to bloom, I am indoors!!!  Sneezing probably!  So, my joy in Spring is creating with flowers and not having to smell them or breathe in the pollen......... Instead of using a favorite flower image, I chose to use a napkin image.

I just love to create using flowers- nothing better than to recreate what I see!  And, all in God's glory!!!

I took a napkin and took off the scrap white layers, then attached it to a white cardstlock which had been run through the Xyron. I have to confess, I have a huge stash of napkins I have saved to create with!!!!

I fussy cut out the flowers and the butterfly from the napkin, then layered it on the white tag.  The tag die cut and the Asian Washi are from Aliexpress. The Kanji is from About Art Accents.

I was cruising Pintrest, and my search led me to the Tag Your It challenge blog.  I spent a little time there, and that is how I ended up using my flower on a tag.  I love that I used some really old SU ribbon to bring out the tan color.  I tried tying the ribbon using twine as I saw in one of the prior posts at Tag Your It-a challenge blog-- love the way it looks and will use this tying technique again.

Oxide resist

I had a bit if time to play with the Distress Oxide inks, and made a card using a resist technique.

I stamped the floral image in Versamark ink & embossed using clear EP.  Then, I dabbed colors onto the craft mat and ran the paper through it.  I dried between layers, and love the way this ink layers- so pretty IRL!  I added a little Asian Kanji in the background and will use this for the AOSA (About Oriental Stamp Art) Yaahoo group for a BRAK.

Luckily, I made a 2nd piece- perfect for an ATC- I will send out for the May ATC Lottery- theme is AG!

I watercolored the flowers on both ATC and card, and would watch some video's before I do it again to get the colors a bit darker on the flower and leaves. I still love the look : )

DDD May Flowers

The May DDD- post on the 15th- I am late!  We are focusing on May flowers this month- and I just love floral images : )

I love floral images, so had to make another with the images Debbie provided in the kit : ) Below, I had to try the technique Jennifer McGuire posted about making shaker cards using tulle.

The Dueling Darlings is a group on Splitcoaststampers. We are divided up into the Divas and the ***Dazzlers***. Each group receives a kit, and we all create with a like theme.  Then, we hop to each others blogs to see what everyone has created. The hostess for the Dazzlers is Debbie and for the Divas Judy.

Sketch lantern

I had fun making an Oriental card for a mingle using the AOSA Sketch (About Oriental Stamp Art Yahoo group).

I used much coveted G45 Bird Song DP. I cut out a die using shimmery pink cardstock - the die is Die-Versions lantern .  I used the flipside of the DP for the middle strip. I cut out a circle of CS and embossed it and added the lantern over that. I used a Copic marker and added highlights to the rhinestones to match.  The sentiment was purchased from a stamp sale- no markings, it says Dream.

My swap partner, Monica, sent me this lovely card:

CYF-Comfort

The Crafters of Faith is a group at SCS formed by Kelly Santi, and we have a monthly inspiration hostess in the group which 'jump starts' our creativity to create.

Our May hostess is Sue.  Here is her inspiration:

"Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God." Psalm 90:2.

Whenever I feel like I can't make it through a tough time, I remind myself that whatever problem I'm facing is so teensy-tiny in the big scheme of things. God always was, He is, and He always will be...long before I was on this earth and long after I am gone. All I have to do is be still and let Him take care of things. Thoughts of His constancy comforts my soul, even in the most troubled times.

Comfort is the key word for May. Make a card of something that brings you comfort. It can be a bowl of chicken soup, a fuzzy pet, reading a good book or spending time with a special person.

My happy place/place of comfort is creating using new techniques or craft items. I have some new inks- Distress Oxide Inks : )  So, I played with mixing colors and created the background of a card.

I used about 6 or 7 of the inks on my card, splashed on some water and then picked out a cardstock- I used SU Perfect Plum.  I used Copics to color the image and added Wink of Stella to the butterflies. I used a Copic marker to color the embossed and punched border- it was white and it was too stark.

HERE is the gallery at SCS for the May challenge cards from the other ladies in the group.

Washi background

I found some delightful Washi tape that is Asian themed : )  It is not easy to find, so I bought lots!  I took a few minutes and made a Thinking of You card for one of the About Oriental Art Yahoo group members that is having some health issues.

I simply laid the tapes down diagonally on a card base, and made another strip 1 1/2" wide with the same pattern, then flipped it upside down to add a little contrast.  I decided yellow was the best match for color, so pulled out some yellow cardstock to coordinate.
I die cut some pretty flowers, and took the SU sentiment and cut it out with a stitched tag die.  The final touch was adding some sequins.

CYS Superhero

Our 'CYS' aka Craft Your Stash group from SCS has a challenge this month with the theme Superhero.  I literally have NO images to use, and found some cute punch patterns, but decided to celebrate an everyday Superhero- Mom's!

I finished the inside too - and added a cape (it is not attached to anything......). This image so reminds me of a Superhero mom that still has kids at home and spends so much time on the go!!!

So, the premise of CYS is to create with our supplies that have gone unused...  So, I have enough sequins in my stash to make shaker cards for....a long time- non-stop!  And, this is the first time using the die set I used for the sentiment and for the frame around the shaker.

I used the remaining of the DDD Kit from THIS post. I have to say, this is the card I first envisioned when I saw this kit- and thankfully, we received 2 of the fun image, and I had plenty of the DP left to have fun and create!!! I loved the way THIS card turned out, for which I did the same thing with paper strips on the backgrounds.

Hugs and comfy quilts

I think the quilt dies that are out are a fab way to use up DP that I have stacked in my bins!  So, I grabbed this one by Gina Marie and went to town!

Now, I love these colors- the teal-ish blue is one of my favorite blues as of late...... But, if you look closely, you will note that the card is watermarked with an egg image...LOL, that is right, the egg image is by Michael Strong Stamps.  I had a nutty month with a family death and a few more not so fun things, so did not get my 'egg themed' card done before Easter,  So, what do you think???  I added a butterfly (MS punch) and a Hugs die which is colored with shimmery clear pen. Now, I have 3 more of the quilts for cards ready!

Faux Canvas

I had some fun making a project for the adult day care my Mother goes to. We made a Faux Canvas with a spring theme.

We used  the bottom of a box (these were from a grocery store) that is 9" x 12. They were painted with Gesso.

The grass was punched out- 6 per 8"x11 1/2" cardstock. the trees were cut using the Silhouette- a design from the library in the Make the Cut program (tree23),  The clouds- Memory Box dies in Marina Mist SU CS. The bird is a unbranded die from China cut out in red SU CS. The flowers are from various punches- I put double sided sticky tape behind the clouds, the bird and back of the flowers so they could be added to the canvas easier.  I am not sure if it was easier or not- peeling the tape off the shapes- or if it would have been easier to glue each piece.

We made a total of 13 or 14- here are a few of the faux canvases:

Easter craft

I made a fun Easter craft for an adult day care my Mom attends.

I left it uncolored so the clients could go with the flow, either color it or not, The image is Create with TLC, The DP and cardstock is by SU- most likely retired.

inside is a Tic-Tac slot/holder.

I made 20 of these for the day care.  They went together easily.

I found the Inspiration from HERE.  I had to alter it for the Tic-Tacs:

Cut cardstock 3" x 11"
Score at 1/2", 1 3/4", 3", 3 1/2 ", 7" and 7 1/2"

Follow directions in link above.

I have a Nellie Snellen die- from Sweetstamps.com that cute a tag with slots in the ends for ribbons. HERE is the link, and it looks like it is on sale more than 50 % off.

The image is on dimensionals. The dimensionals have to be above the ribbon in order to open the holder with ease.

DDD- You are My Sunshine!

Well, I missed the 15th, but had to play with the kit for the Dueling Darlings this month. The theme- You are My Sunshine!

Oh this kit was a blast, and I have a 2nd card started. I used to sing this song to my kids every single night when they were growing up!
I used a sketch is from Sweet Sketch Wednesday. I colored the image with Copics. I used a lighter shade BG70 and a mid range BG75 tip to tip to create the middle color for Sunshine and the girls shirt.

The kit contained:

Caffeine Problem?

I had a challenge for a green card- so went to work with distress inks.

I used an emboss resist technique- using the embossing first before applying the distress ink               ( Mowed Ink) , as you can see.  I added green highlights to the coffee cup, the added brown for the 'coffee' in the cup.  I had a scrap of burlap sitting on my desk, so used it under the cup. Joy

The Crafters of Faith (COF) group over at Splitcoast has a monthly post with a theme suggested reflecting a reading from scripture.  For April Jeanette is the hostess and our theme is JOY.

Joy is not based on circumstances, but rather comes from within. No matter what is happening in our lives we can have Joy because of our love for the Lord and our hope in Him.

Joy is also one of the fruits of the Spirit…

Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

My Joy is papercrafting, and especially using supplies to try a new technique : )

I happened to see a long handled pasta brush ($3.95) and I bought it to see if it would work like a much more expensive one that is on the market.... I used Distress inks and brushed them across white cardstock, viola.  I also brushed color on a smaller piece of cardstock for the sentiment.  I turned it around to cut out the sentiment.  I cut out the Memory Box die and glued it onto Turquoise cardstock. I decided to leave the card CAS.

I took a second piece of cardstock and cleaned off the brush on it after using the ink above.  It was much lighter in color. I thought it would be fun to add a stencil over the top of the cardstock- I did not clean off the brush between colors, can you see how the dirty brush grayed up my brushed on colors?

I experimented with the flower, and finally was happy with a piece that I had brushed on the Coral Distress ink on before stamping.  I added white Signo pen highlights and a touch of shimmer to the centers of the flowers. I fussy cut out the top image leaving the flowers out.  I colored the leaves with Copics and fussy cut out a 2nd image, so the floral layer is sitting up a layer.  I also had a butterfly punched from a piece of waste that I added onto the top.

OK, now Darnell has asked for April that we post Boo Boo's.  Initially, I was going to leave 1/2 of the sentiment white. I decided I did not like that and was going to brush color onto the white part of the die, and essentially ruined my 1st panel..... (which I used for butterflies and Easter Eggs).

Oops!  Well then........

Wild Blooms

I was able to dig into one of my 'die' drawers, and found one I have never ever used.  I bought it in 2014 and enjoyed finally using it.

I thought this would look good with the inlaid die technique.  So, I cut out the die (Wild Blooms- Memory Box) from white cardstock.  Next, I applied double sided sticky tape to the back of the Rose Red cardstock, and then adhered the die pieces into the openings on the white cardstock.  The outer die is by Gina Marie. The DP is Prima Madeline.

I wanted to squeeze in a card for the From the Heart Progressive Challenge- we have until the end of the month to get 'er done!

I used Copics to color the cute image. I made the frames out of MME Lost and Found Breeze DP using Gina Marie dies. The button is from SU.

I love the way this bird is looking up to the sky with the sweetest smile ever!  I decided that I was going to use whatever DP was first when I opened up the drawer they were in, I was lucky that there was green in the mix.

CYS- Recipe Time

I have joined a group on Splitcoast where we are Challenged to 'Use our Stash'. Additionally, each month we have a theme- this month is a recipe- use green, use three of something and make a sympathy card.  Such a challenge gets you looking in your stash for some ideas- I had a hard time making a decision, so made 2 cards again this month......

I cannot remember the last time I used a background image like this with embossing powder!!!  This is called Victorian Lace (Stampin Up) and I bought it around 2001.  It is stamped onto vellum using Versamark and embossed using Fantasy Ivory EP from Sweet Stamps (this EP has a gold glitter in it).  The sentiment is Sweet Stamps. I also used retired cardstock Sage Shadow. I added three pearls, then decided it needed one more to the Lt of the sentiment.

Well, this fits the recipe too....  I stamped and embossed onto vellum with white EP. The Lilly stamp is by Michael Strong.  I old school colored on the back of the vellum using my SU markers and retired SU cardstock (pretty sure it is Lavender Lace). The green is Garden Green SU cardstock, that is dry embossed. Wink of Stella was used in the centers of the flowers for a little sparkle. I added pearls in groups of three's to finish the recipe.

This was my month to come up with a challenge.  My Dad died last year in March- one week shy of his 88th Birthday, so Sympathy card was a perfect theme, He was 100% Irish- so Green was the perfect color. Three of something was an added bonus- Dad was super religious- he was three months away from being a priest- spending many years in seminary...so Father, Son and Holy Spirit......  If he had his way, there would be something funny or humorous on the card too : )

Thanks for the great group Barb- it is so wonderful to use all of these unused stamps and supplies !  I am using 'older stuff' and enjoying every minute of it!

Sea-ing double???

The caption was my husband's idea : )  Sea horse sea-ing double......

We were challenged (as a group) on the Michael Strong (Yahoo) Group to use the Seahorse stamp to make a card. We had no restrictions about colors or anything else....

I used a piece of a Simple Sumi (Technique Junkies) scrap- just big enough for one the large and one of the small seahorses.  I stamped in Versamark ink, then embossed in black EP. I sponged on the ink for the background. I added Crystal Effects on the bubbles, and added a few sequins here and there, then decided to add a seqins strip across the top of the card.

Fish Mingle

Something is fishy this month- and it is a mingle over at the About Oriental Stamp Yahoo Group.  We can use fish image, and there has to be a stamped item. (And, it has to be Asian).

I placed an order recently with Frantic Stampers, and received some Scrapbook Stickers- the fish being one of them, I added it over a Simple Sumi background- that was a Technique Junkie scrap : )  I used Basic Grey DP, added a rub on from the Target dollar spot (it is the design on the left side).  The floral image up on top and the sentiment is from Clear Dollar Stamps (sadly, now closed).

My partner, JB sent me this lovely card

I love the fish image, and all of the pearls on the background she added.

I am trying to get to blogs- slowly but surely!  More appointments to make- hoping to get in the creative space later in the afternoon : )

I wanted to share my St Patrick's Day cards.  The first I made for my Mom to give to my brother- we were going to go to his K of C St Patrick's Day fun night tonight, but she decided she is too tired this week. (We would have 2 1/2-3 hours of driving.....    I will have to mail it Belated......

The image is My Sentiments Exactly (SS106). The DP is Reminisce Stroke of Luck. It has a shimmery sheen to it- so pretty IRL.

And, my stamping friends are having an influence on me- I finished the inside:

I am going to enter the Daring Cardmakers Green with a touch of Gold challenge.

I used the same image to make a CAS card for my Mother's daycare for their party:

DDD - Ride in My Beautiful Balloon

It's the 15th of the month and time for the Dueling Darlings post. Our theme is Would You Like to Ride in My Beautiful Balloon (yes, I would!!! )

I made two cards from the awesome kit we received this month from Darling, the hostess of the Dazzlers.  (The Divas hostess is LJ this month).

I used the Mojo Monday sketch #488 for this card. I had so much fun with this kit, I made two cards- here is the 2nd:
I loved that Darlene sent us stamped colored portions of the backing for this die, so I covered them with 2" double sided score tape, and covered that with Sparkle and Sprinkle Semi-transparent glitter,

This shows the pretty colors Darlene sent for the backing a bit better.
I used the Sunday Stamps Sketch challenge for this card.

The kit contained:
Die Cut and images from SU Lift me Up set. Stamped in SU Emerald Envy, Flirty Flamingo, Sweet Sugar Plum and Daffodil Delight. The die cuts for under the balloon (die cut) use the above colors and a SU blending pen smoothed out the colors.

DP papers are from Morocco pad by SEI

Ribbons are Hobby Lobby Ribbon Boutique. Sequins are The Paper Studio Spare Parts.

Napkin Card class

One of the techniques I have always wanted to do was to make cards from Napkins.  So, I saw a class at a local store and signed up my mother and myself : )

I love this pretty card : ) There is enough left over for another card too!

This is so pretty IRL, I would never have picked up this napkin as the flower is 'fuzzy' in appearance, but it is lovely.  We have enough supplies to make 3 more of this one too.....

I will not look at napkins the same again- isn't this lovely?  We have enough to make 3 more of this one as well.

This fun one is perfect for a masculine card- enough supplies to make one more of this one each.

The designs are by Jan at Creative Crafts and More in Villa Park Ill.  It was a fun class and at the perfect pace. We did a little cutting/prep in advance which made the class go very smoothly. And, the insides of the cards are decorated as well.
